Viewing history

The history of a document or folder includes all of the actions that have been performed on it:

If you perform two consecutive actions of the same type, only one is listed (for example, viewing document properties twice in succession). History is saved for each document version separately and can be viewed as described in Viewing prior versions.

To view the history of a document or folder:

  1. Open the property page of the document as described in Viewing and editing document properties or of the folder as described in Viewing and editing folder properties.
  2. If the item is a folder, on the ribbon, in the Folder group, click History.

    OR

    If the item is a document, on the ribbon, in the Document group, click Version history. A page listing the base properties and document history appears.

  3. The actions for each version are listed separately. Each action includes the date and time that the action was performed and the name of the user who performed the action.
